Seeking plans for Steregushchiy corvette

I'm on the search for plans for the Russian Project 20380 Steregushchiy class corvette.

Much appreciated if someone can point me in the right direction; all I have at the moment is a very low resolution JPG made by a member from the shipmodels.info forum

Thanks Mike, took a look at Dave's model couple of weeks back, very useful.

Bit of a dumb question for the floor. I've just gotten a running set from George Sitek, and I'm looking at how to drill out the openings for the prop shaft outers (8mm).

I don't think there's enough room for a 8mm hole in the end, without destroying the fibreglass and gel coat around it.

Is it better to cut the two long sections out, position the shaft outers, then bog over the whole thing?

When i used Tim's Hull and George's running gear i had same issue.

Hi Kit,

Drill it out, using a long drill, you may have to go to Bunnings to get the longest one you can find, but its worth it (you WILL use it again) and drill out the shaft tube holes.

You will likely chew up the end a bit with the drill, but once complete, you set the tubes in and then use bog to remake the shaft exits, smoothing it down and sanding it so you get a smooth finish.

Mike, I'm just concerned that there will be hardly any material left if I drill the holes and then grind away the inner hull fibreglass to fit the shaft outers.

When I did it with the V&W hull, the fibreglass around the shaft exits became paper thin and I ended up poking a couple of holes in it.

Hi Kit, I've had similar issues with models and ended up bogging and sanding to recreate the shaft housings in bog.

I'm sure others have done the same.

I use the fibre glass reinforced auto bog for prop shaft housings.

The trick to doing a neat job with a F/glass hull is put masking tape over the hull where you want to drill or cut and start with a small drill and work your way up to the size hole you require. I found with Tim's Baltimore/Albany class hvy cruiser hull that it was a pretty easy install and came out very neat. Here are some pics

then just bog the inside with the F/glass reinforced bog and use some regular bog on the outside around the shaft tubes to tidy up.

I had some more pics of the install but I think I lost the during a hard drive failure...

Don't agree. I have built one.

Here's one I prepared much earlier... which is now in Matt's fleet here in FBGW.


Using a big drill bit for this hull even if you drill smaller preliminary pilot holes runs the risk of tearing away / cracking off excess material that you may like to keep. Far better to bore out any shaft housing already present in the hull with a dremel aluminum oxide grinding stone.

As Kit alluded to, given that the Sitek running gear on this hull will leave a wafer thin membrane of housing you are far better cutting a slot where Tim's shaft housing is with a Dremel cut off wheel. That is eliminating the housing altogether and tidying with a file.

I use broad electrical tape to hold the shaft stuffing tube in place spanning the outside of the hull covering completely the shaft's stuffing tube and the slot you have cut. When you bog the inside, any excess bog fills any gap up to the tape. Obviously cutting the slot as close as possible to the OD of the stuffing tube helps have a minimal gap. Then use a couple of layers of fibreglass cloth over the bog and the stuffing tube inside the hull. Remember to rough up the tube and inner hull with some sandpaper first.
