Naval Association Display Day, Wangi Wangi, Lake Macquarie 2006 Photo Gallery

The second annual Wangi Wangi R.S.L. display has been & gone with 6 task force groupies in attendance, with Vice president Rosenberg at the helm & a crew of Hunter Central personnel, Chas Baxter, Wolfgang Nebart, Richard Dawson, David Rowlands & Allan Pew, all together mustering a total of 20 models, from largest, Wolfgang's CG U.S.S. Chosin to smallest, Chas's sailing cutter of some obscure description.

This event is an annual get together of various chapters of the NSW Naval Association for a catered lunch accompanied by the pipes & drums of the local RSL band, & contrary to popular myth, this does not necessarily put one off one's food, one just drinks more to deaden the pain, the result of which is a rather shaky photograph of 5 brain dead diners !

The day is quite a bit more interesting & lively, than the average static displays that the club attends because you're talking to, & more importantly, listening to retired naval personnel who speak the same language, & can appreciate the efforts that we make to advance our hobby, you only have to look at photo of Ron Rosenberg suckin' his thumb to see this. In fairness to Rosey, this was only moments before lunch was announced.

The last club outing I wrote about, "Mt Penang running day" I mentioned a fantastic U-boat by Newcastle member Richard Dawson, well Richard brought her to Wangi, so I took some ultra close up shots to drool over, trouble is, this was just after lunch & photographer was still brain dead & shaky, so some didn't tun out very well, but ya can't help lovin' this model.

I believe, towards the end of the day, Ron was approached by a member of a Sydney chapter of the association, with a request to mount a display some time in the future along the same lines, I only hope Ron, you can talk them into a string quartet instead of a pipe band !!!

A great venue for a static display.  Beer and food close at hand.

A "White" Fleet.  Coast Guard and survey vessels.

Appreciative members of the Naval Association examine the models closely.  Many of them loved seeing their old ships.

The boys relax over a beer after (during and before) the show.

Many models had to be packed quite tightly to be able to get them on display.

Richard Dawson's beautiful Type VIIC German U-boat.   Beautifully built and weathered.

More of Richard's beautiful U-boat.

The model is a surface runner so the crew have no worries of being washed over board.
