Held on the weekend of 28 - 29 July at Panthers Club Settlement City on
the beautiful Hastings River, ideal weather for running models, but
after 13 years the idea of getting the feet wet in this environment, no
longer appeals to Task Forcers, so we leave that to the flying sandshoes
& yachties & spend our time eatin’ Drinkin’ & socialisin’ in the
exhibition hall …….Wooppee !!
Flying the banner high this year were members Chas Baxter, Tim Amos,
John Martin ,Ron Rosenberg & Allan Pew, A more sinister bunch of party
animals couldn’t be imagined, but under the watchful eye of Grandpa
Rosey, no one brought the good name of the Association into disrepute,
much.
This year it was decided to choose a theme to centre our display on, &
our choice was R.A.N. WW2. thus we gathered as many of these models
together as we were logistically able to manage, begging & borrowing
boats from different members, our thanks to Ian Howard , Vince Fazio,
Bob Debenham, Mark Buttsworth, David Rowlands & John Konda. With Tim &
Rosey’s models we ended up with 10 R.A.N. ships of the era , plus an R.N.
escort of 2 Flower Corvettes & escort carrier complete with flying air
wing, which kept an eye on the Japanese cruiser & destroyer slinking
about in the background. All up 22 models were displayed, this included
Chas’s Golden beHind, John’s LSD or T & Allan’s LARC.
Once again, or should I say, as per usual, I think we had the most
striking display in the auditorium, if not the most colourful . Thank
you to all involved, & for trusting us with your models. N.B. Vince,
your Waterhen will be as good as new once I repair the gash in the hull
& Rosey replaces the port engine.
