The BAE Global Defense Frigate had lost favor to the French Fremm design, but is now apparently front runner again to replace the Anzac's as the next Frigate.
First video of what it should actually look like, is around 6000 tonnes I believe, which is considerably bigger than our current Anzacs

Re: New Frigate - AWD Hull rejected
Given the AWD hull has been rejected for the future RAN frigates (see links: http://www.janes.com/article/53246/aust ... e-frigates , https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/type-26 ... australia/ )
- was wondering how likely the Type 26 is as the likely contender and when a decision would be made?
T26 is BAE design - which does build in Australia.

Re: New Frigate
Given the size of the order, the French would collaborate on setting up a production facility for the FREMM here if they are the successful bidder.
Mind you, I hadn't heard that the FREMM had overtaken the Type 26 in popularity, the last I heard the Type 26 was still favored in Russell Offices, of course who is favoured depends on who you talk to and the RAN hasn't even started the competition for the Anzac replacement so all we are hearing is pre-competition posturing and positioning by the builders.
The Pacific 2015 exhibition is on in two weeks, I'm expecting that there will be a big showing from every major Western shipbuilder on the planet given the billions involved in the rolling shipbuilding plan and the submarine project.
I am attending and will post images.

Re: New Frigate
Thanks Mike
When will they make a decision? Have read conflicting articles that say 2018 others say next year.

Re: New Frigate
The definitive comment on the new frigate project by Defence’s maritime systems chief, Rear Admiral Mark Purcell.
The enterprise-level naval shipbuilding plan outlining Defence’s plans for the navy had been provided to the government.
He dismissed recent media reports on the number of ships to be built, their prices and the division of work between states as “megaphone diplomacy from Adelaide”, saying the Defence Department was yet to decide on the details.
“We’re a bit bemused because we’re still in a requirements and needs phase,” he said.
