Summer Regatta 2004 Photo Gallery

With the change of dates for the regatta during 2004, another regatta was held over the weekend of December 4th and 5th.    This has now brought the TF72 Annual Regatta back to the usual dates during the period of end of November early December each year.

This regatta was well attended once again with members from Canberra and Brisbane attending along with a lot of the NSW members.   The reviewing officer for this event was another well known modeller in the form of Mr. Karl Maurer a founding member of the ACT Model Boat Club.   Several new models caught Karl's fine eye for detail and the "Bravo Zulu" award was presented to a very shocked Allen Pew who after many years had finally completed a magnificent model of HMS LINCOLN, a 1960's era Type 61 Frigate.   (See Al, it does pay to finish one off now and then!).   The Members' Choice and "Wentworth Shield" was awarded to Geoff Eastwood with his newly completed INS GODAVARI.    This unusual ship built in an Indian Shipyard combines a number of foreign systems including Russian weapons, Dutch and Russian Radars built on a modified British designed hull and propulsion machinery.

Several other new models and several more under construction where displayed and run at this years regatta including a model of GUISEPPI GARIBALDI the Italian VSTOL Carrier.   This model splits in two sections for ease of transport and when fitted together it is impossible to tell where it joins.  Well done to all those attended this years "Second Regatta" and helped with food, preparation and setting up.

John Slater's GIUSEPPI GARIBALDI rides at anchor at Wentworth Falls. This model will be spectacular when complete and John estimates she will be ready for Regatta 2005.

Part of the "Fleet" forms up in the anchorage.

Part of the "Fleet" that hasn't made it to the anchorage yet!

Some of the working boat fleet. Tugs, Ferries and Cargo vessels gather in numbers. They probably feel it's safer away from those "big, bad warships".

INS GODAVARI at anchor. This beautiful model was built by Geoff Eastwood and won this year's Wentworth Shield.

INS GODAVARI. This is a very interesting vessel being a combination of British, Indian, Russian and Dutch weapons and equipment.

Dave Rowlands USS FRANK E. EVANS. This ship met it's demise under the bows of HMAS MELBOURNE in 1969. The model has so far kept clear of her.

Allan Pews rebuilt HMS DECOY. This model was up until recently HMAS VAMPIRE which was sunk several years ago following a collision between her and USS GETTYSBURG.

Most of the "LEANDER" derivatives together. The LEANDER Hull form was used for many different classes of ships during the 1960-70's. It was chosen for it's stability in heavy seas.
