Regatta 2003 Photo Gallery

The photos below are just a few of the highlights of this year's TASK FORCE 72 Regatta held at Wentworth Falls on Saturday the 1st and Sunday the 2nd of March 2003. A great time was had by all, even if it did get a little blustery and cool at times. Here are some of the photos.

The "Fleet" assembles for the 2003 TASK FORCE 72 Regatta. Some of ships are already at sea, preparing for the "Fleet Review".

Royce and Richard James head out to sea. Forgive the guys, as they are from Wagga and haven't seen much water for a while. It's hard to recognise Richard as he is usually swimming, chasing his Dad's Aircraft Carrier, HMAS MELBOURNE around the lake.

Lieutenant-Commander Shane Moore, RAN, Our Reviewing Officer for 2003 presents the "Bravo Zulu" (Well Done) award to Geoff Eastwood for his model of HMAS QUEENBOROUGH.

Some of the 'Fleet' on display. Conditions on Saturday were not good for the ships with high winds and rough seas. Sunday ended up much more to the liking of the TASK FORCE Skippers.

The magnificent model of HMAS SYDNEY II the Modified "Leander Class" Cruiser. This model is the work of Phil Somerville and Regatta 2003 was the model's public debut.

A Ceremonial Life Ring is presented to the VOYAGER Association in recognition of their support for TASK FORCE 72 for many years.

HMAS MELBOURNE CVS-21 settles into dock for some shore leave for her crew. Fleet Base Wagga even bring their own wharves.

HMAS SYDNEY at speed. The Mod Leander makes a fine subject for a model with their elegant lines and 4 six inch twin turrets.

Some of the crowd of enthusiasts and spectators at this years regatta. It is always surprising the type of people that visit the regatta. We get the usual ex-sailor that comes to see if anyone has built his old ship, up to people that are just driving by and stop to have a look only to find themselves staying for hours to look at every single model on show.

A Nearly completed model of HMCS TORONTO, a Canadian City Class Frigate. This model is revolutionary in its electrical and control systems in that all the systems are on printed circuit boards and if something should go wrong, take out the old one and put in a new one.

Kerry James of Fleet base Wagga is presented with the "Voyager Plate" from the Voyager Association. Their association has presented this award to a model for the past 6 years, and is a very sought after prize amongst members.
