SSS Model Boat Day Boondall April 2007 Photo Gallery

Attached are some photos of the warship regatta on April 15. Task Force members who attended are Cameron Glassford, Jim Russell, Chris Rogers, Karl Maurer, Andy Hecke, Jeff Dixon, Peter Smith and Mark Manson. Boats were HMAS Brisbane, HMAS Stuart, HMNZS Taranaki, HMS Invincible, USS San Juan, USS Slater and U213. Special mention should be given for Karl and Gwen Maurer for coming all the way from Canberra to attend the regatta.

Frank and Ashley Blades sailed their WWII 1:72 carriers USS Enterprise and USS Yorktown. These carrier came with complete sound effects of their anti aircraft guns. Others from the Sunshine Coast Club attended.

Pat Drake was there with his U995 and there were two 1:48 battleships. USS New Jersey and IJS Yamoto. Both of these were capable of firing their main armament.

The weather was fine and sunny. Triple S club had provided extra marques and tables for models to be displayed. Visitors enjoyed watching Pat Drake fire exploding torpedoes against HMAS Invincible. From the explosions water went up twice the height of the carrier. Added to that was Pat's Uboat laying down a smoke screen that covered half the sailing area and making it impossible to see anything.

I set up a couple of tables to sell some of my surplus to needs hulls. I had Alan Pew's catalog on display and many were interested in what they saw. More people are starting to realise what the hobby is and how they can get into it. I hope this regatta can become an annual event and help grow the membership in Task Force 72.
