Barham Steam Festival, Barham Lake February 2006 Photo Gallery

If hospitality is what you are after, this is the place to go!!  Barham which is on the Murray river not that far from the South Australian border is a beautiful sleepy little town until the Steam Festival hits town.   TF72 has been invited for the past two years and the dedicated Fleet Base Wagga Wagga boys make the pilgrimage down each year.   Along with Craig Laughton and Allan Collins of Sydney and Chris Rogers of Brisbane they managed to provide the crowd with four aircraft carriers to view plus their escorts.   USS ENTERPRISE, HMAS MELBOURNE, HMS INVINCIBLE and USS WILLIAM F. HALSEY hit the water both day and night.  Being able to camp by the lake and just kick back and have a sail is what it is all about.   The Barham Festival guys provide most of the delicious meals for the weekend and looked after the guys with everything they needed.   The night time "Op" is a real crowd puller and no sooner than dinner is finished, the crowd sets up camp on the lake edge for the night show of models sailing with lights.   It is on again in 2007 and there is always room for more down by the lake!

Kerry James and Allan Collins sit back and enjoy the morning chat time.

The TF72 Rescue Boat can't keep up with these carrier monsters.  Good spot for photos though.

ENTERPRISE and INVINCIBLE cruise the lake in the early morning sun.

Kerry cooking breakfast of bacon and eggs on the Club trailer BBQ.

More of the morning run.

an ideal location for testing out just how long will those batteries last?

The first two carriers are joined by HMAS MELBOURNE for a sail around the lake.

With the sun going down and a beer in their hands the carriers have a pleasant afternoon sail.

Heading back towards the dockyard for a short spell or R & R prior to the night sail.

The sun sets as the full moon rises as the Carriers set sail again for the night show.

Some of the crowd gather for the show.   The kids just love it!

Full Moon and the ships are out there somewhere.  Allan Collins had a little trouble sleeping after this as he slept out under the stars and kept looking for the light switch to turn off the moon.

One of Karl Maurer's beautiful vessels out under full lights.  A novel way to see the models by shooting the photos with an Infra-Red Camera  Thanks Al.
